General Motors Launches GM Automotive Service Technicians 30 Under 30 Program
General Motors (GM) has unveiled its first GM Automotive Service Technicians 30 Under 30 program, aimed at recognizing the emerging generation of automotive service technicians.
Addressing the Technician Shortage
The initiative seeks to tackle the significant shortage of service technicians and highlight the new leaders shaping the future of mobility. It aims to showcase the rewarding career paths available in modern service environments.
Recognizing Future Service Leaders
The GM Automotive Service Technicians 30 Under 30 program honors technicians under 30 years old who exemplify technical training, outstanding customer service, mentorship, and leadership. Honorees will act as GM ambassadors, sharing their journeys and promoting the current landscape of automotive careers.
Selected honorees will receive:
- National recognition at an exclusive induction ceremony in Detroit.
- A custom Packout toolbox and professional tools, reflecting GM and Milwaukee Tool’s commitment to skilled trades development.
- Personal AI glasses to enhance vehicle diagnostics and customer interactions.
- A personalized service jacket commemorating their achievement.
“Service technicians are at the forefront of innovation as vehicles become more complex,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “This program will recognize exceptional young talent and nurture a solid pipeline of skilled technicians for the future.”
Building Future-Ready Technicians
With increasing vehicle complexity, well-trained technicians are vital for keeping customers on the road. However, there’s a critical shortage of qualified talent in the industry.
GM is committed to addressing this challenge through various training and recognition programs:
- General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (GM ASEP): A two-year college-based program that prepares students through classroom and hands-on training coupled with paid apprenticeships.
- Shifting Gears Automotive Technical Training Program: A 12-week transition program tailored for U.S. Armed Forces veterans moving into service technician roles.
- Technician Excellence: A development program supporting technicians as they enhance their skills and advance in their careers.
