Chery allegedly considers introducing Omoda and Jaecoo to the Chinese market.

Chery, a Chinese automaker, is gearing up to launch its overseas brands Omoda and Jaecoo in the domestic market, aiming to reposition them as high-margin premium brands. This move correlates with recent hiring of talent from established European automakers like BMW, Mercedes, and Audi, which hints at a strategic shift towards a more upscale segment rather than simply rebranding existing models.

The Jaecoo 7 and other models currently sold under other names in China face the challenge of differentiation from their Chery counterparts without diminishing the international prestige intended for Omoda and Jaecoo. Chery’s leadership acknowledges that consumer preferences lean towards the driving experience of German cars, signifying the company’s goal to incorporate these insights into their new offerings.

Despite a significant rise in export sales—accounting for over 70% of total sales—the company struggles in the domestic market, where sales have declined. The Omoda and Jaecoo brands have seen success abroad, with impressive sales figures, particularly in the UK. However, their launch in China could contribute to internal competition among Chery’s diverse lineup of brands.

This strategy represents a significant shift for Chery, positioning Omoda and Jaecoo as globally validated brands that may resonate more with Chinese consumers looking for Western credibility in automotive performance and design.
