Xpeng has launched its robotaxi service named Yoyo (小鹏悠游) in China, initially opening it to select users through an invitation-based system. The vehicle, based on the GX SUV, has already completed over 2,200 trial rides. Passengers can use a mini-program linked to WeChat to book rides, adjust cabin settings, and access various comfort features like massage seats and rear entertainment.
The Yoyo robotaxi utilizes Xpeng’s advanced in-house technology, including Turing AI chips and a vision-based navigation system, supporting Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities. Regular road testing began in January 2026, and the production was confirmed in May, with trials for employee rides following soon after.
Xpeng is aiming to expand its operations and plans for the robotaxi service to become financially sustainable, projecting a potential break-even point for vehicle economics by late 2027. The company is also exploring partnerships for future expansions in Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, with plans to introduce a model specifically designed for robotaxi operations by 2027.
Editor Jiri Opletal highlights the competitive landscape of China’s EV market, noting that Xpeng’s diversification into robotaxi services and humanoid robots may help mitigate low margins from vehicle sales.
