The British brand LYMA has introduced a five-part framework called the P.O.W.E.R. Index to aid consumers in evaluating health and wellness purchases. This comprehensive framework addresses various products, including supplements, diagnostic scans, skincare, and devices, and aims to establish a standard for premium health and wellness companies.
The initiative responds to a notable disparity between the increasing wellness industry expenditure and consumer knowledge. The Global Wellness Institute projects the global wellness economy to grow from $6.8 trillion in 2024 to nearly $9.8 trillion by 2029. A recent study highlighted that over half of women struggle to differentiate between genuinely science-backed products and those that merely use scientific terminology, with many expressing frustration over the difficulty in finding reliable health information.
To address this, the P.O.W.E.R. Index poses five essential questions for consumers to consider before making a purchase:
- Proven: Is there credible scientific evidence supporting the product?
- Outcomes: Does the product contribute to meaningful, long-term health benefits?
- Whole-System: Does it consider the interconnected aspects of health rather than just addressing isolated symptoms?
- Empowering: Does it enhance understanding and control over personal health?
- Return: Does it offer lasting health benefits instead of just short-term improvements?
LYMA’s founder, Lucy Goff, emphasized that health should meet the same standards as other significant investments. By sharing the P.O.W.E.R. Index, LYMA aspires to empower customers to make informed choices in their health and wellness endeavors.
