The Congressional Budget Office <a href="https://apnews.com/article/shutdown-republicans-schumer-health-insurance-tax-credits-a57733892f05a8893f5781203238e889">estimates</a> that the economic damage will mostly be mitigated post-shutdown, but not entirely, projecting a permanent economic loss of approximately $11 billion after a six-week closure.</p>

    <p><strong>According to a <a href="https://www.iea.org/reports/world-energy-outlook-2025/executive-summary">new forecast</a> by the International Energy Agency, global oil and gas demand may continue to rise through 2050.</strong> This forecast deviates from previous expectations of a swift shift toward cleaner energy sources. The report highlights, "Total global energy demand is expected to increase by 2% in 2024, reaching over 650 exajoules (EJ). Fossil fuels will account for nearly 80% of global energy demand, with only a slight decrease in their share since 2000."</p>
