Sound Transit is implementing a pilot program that allows pets on Link light rail, Sounder trains, and ST Express buses with simpler guidelines. The program, running until spring 2027, aims to collect feedback and data related to safety and accessibility.
Key Rules:
- Dogs can be on a short leash or in a carrier; cats and smaller pets must remain in secure carriers.
- Pets must be controlled, cleaned up after, and kept out of seats, aisles, and doorways.
- Aggressive animals are prohibited, and service animal rules remain unchanged.
Sound Transit will post signage about the new rules at its facilities soon. Feedback will be gathered from employees and maintenance reports to inform a permanent policy. Pet travel is not guaranteed and may be restricted for safety or overcrowding reasons.
For any onboard issues, passengers can contact Sound Transit Security at 206-398-5268. More details on the rules can be found on Sound Transit’s website.
