Apache Helicopter Disrupts Alabama Car Show: A Nightmare for Classic Car Enthusiasts
At a recent car show during the Claybank Jamboree in Ozark, Alabama, an unexpected event took place when an Army Apache helicopter landed close to the venue. The rotor wash from the helicopter sent dirt and debris flying onto the classic cars just as they were about to be judged.
Incident Details:
- The car show occurred on October 3, and the Apache helicopter was initially scheduled to arrive before the event started. However, weather delays pushed its arrival time close to the show’s registration wrap-up.
- Tyler Williams, the founder of Wiregrass Carshows, which organized the event, noted that the helicopter landed closer to the parking area than intended. As a result, almost all cars were affected, with windows down and hoods up, making them especially vulnerable to the flying debris.
Organizational Oversight:
- The Ozark Area Chamber of Commerce is responsible for planning the Jamboree, which includes coordinating the helicopter displays. Williams mentioned that helicopters had been provided for static displays in past years without issue, as they typically landed before the show or did not land at all.
Damage and Claims:
- Although there were no injuries reported, the Army acknowledged that the debris from the helicopter may have caused damage to several cars. Affected owners were advised to reach out to Fort Rucker for damage claims.
- Williams conveyed that he received a claims form from the Army and shared it with the car show participants but refrained from assigning blame to any party involved.
As video footage of the incident circulated on social media, the disruption served as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of outdoor events, particularly those involving military displays.
