Two women have tragically died and a third is in critical condition after being struck by a car in the Allerton area of the Bronx. The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Allerton and Holland avenues, with reports indicating that three of the victims were family members.
Surveillance footage from News 12 captures a white Mercedes-Benz speeding through the intersection, hitting a group of pedestrians in the crosswalk and colliding with multiple vehicles waiting at a red light. A total of four women were impacted by the Mercedes, leading to injuries for at least six others involved in the vehicle collisions.
Eyewitness accounts reveal the chaotic scene, with one observer commenting on the shocking nature of the event. Investigators believe the 81-year-old driver of the Mercedes may have suffered a medical emergency that caused him to lose control of the vehicle. Witnesses noted that the engine noise suggested high speeds before the crash.
The NYPD reports that the two deceased victims, aged 39 and 57, sustained severe head and body trauma, while an 84-year-old victim remains in critical condition. A fourth victim, a 60-year-old woman, is expected to recover from her injuries.
In addition to the pedestrians, the occupants of the other vehicles involved, including the driver of the Mercedes, received medical attention and are expected to recover. All individuals involved remained at the scene, and no arrests have been made. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
