Quakertown High School has introduced new safety procedures for its football games after several incidents where students were found with alcohol. This decision was made ahead of the annual 309 Bowl against Souderton, which is part of the school’s Friday Night Lights tradition.
The school district noted that during recent home games, there were reports of alcohol possession among students, prompting the changes. New measures include a ban on outside food and drinks, prohibiting backpacks, and subjecting any bags brought into the stadium to searches.
Local residents have expressed mixed feelings about the new policies. While some understand the reasons for heightened security, others have pointed to a need for greater vigilance regarding safety and substance abuse.
Quakertown is among several districts that have strengthened security protocols following incidents at local sporting events. Similar measures have been adopted by the Easton Area School District and Truman High School, which already had a no-backpack policy in place.
Going forward, the new procedures will remain in effect for the remainder of the home football season. Assistant Superintendent Lisa Hoffman emphasized that the safety of students and community members is the top priority.
