Understanding the Reasons and Methods Behind Faculty Salary Investments | CU Boulder Today

The success of our academic mission at CU Boulder hinges on continuous investment in faculty salaries. This investment is directed towards enhancing the competitiveness and equity of our faculty compensation, which includes:

  1. Promotion and Tenure Pay Increases: To address salary disparities, especially for faculty promoted to associate or full professor, we will implement significant salary increases at these milestones. Faculty will receive either a flat amount or a percentage increase, whichever is greater, with annual adjustments to prevent value erosion.

  2. Structural Salary Adjustments: We are committing $12 million over the next three years to improve salary competitiveness, with a personalized approach prioritized for departments with significant salary gaps compared to peers.

  3. Ongoing Commitment to Salary Equity: An annual faculty salary equity review process is being initiated to ensure fair compensation for tenured, tenure-track, teaching, and clinical faculty. Allocations for equity and compression adjustments will be provided to schools and colleges.

These measures reflect our strong commitment to faculty and staff compensation, recognizing their vital role in advancing our institutional mission and providing exceptional educational experiences.
