The Northwood University International Auto Show is set to rev up for its 64th annual event, themed “Full Throttle,” from October 8-10, 2027. Under the leadership of Nicholas “Nick” Porter, a student from Commerce Township, Michigan, this year’s show promises to spotlight the future of the automotive industry while honoring its rich traditions.
Porter described the theme as a way to build on the show’s legacy and accelerate towards future developments. He stated, “We want guests to feel the energy of the automotive industry’s future and see what Northwood students can accomplish when we bring our ideas, ambition, and teamwork together.”
Porter was announced as the general chair of the 2027 Northwood University International Auto Show during the recent Captains Gala. The 2026 show, led by Chase Southwick, featured over 325 new vehicles valued at $60 million and significant participation from more than 300 students across various automotive sectors.
Highlights from the 2026 event included:
- A record turnout of about 250 guests for the Thursday Night Preview.
- The introduction of a new main stage featuring entertainment and interviews.
- Increased sponsor participation, surpassing levels seen in prior years.
The 2026 show embraced the theme “Northwood Drives America,” celebrating America’s 250th anniversary alongside the automotive industry’s contributions.
Entirely student-led since its inception in 1964, NUIAS offers students hands-on experience in managing relationships with sponsors and ensuring a high-quality guest experience. As Porter envisions it, the 2027 show will generate excitement about the future of the automotive industry and the potential roles young leaders can play.
The recent Auto Show also featured various major announcements, including a historic $30 million philanthropic pledge from alumnus Jim Koons, aimed at supporting educational growth and scholarships.
