Xiaomi’s new Sky Nomad series has received over 70,000 orders in its first month, which, while impressive, falls short of the company’s previous launches and is overshadowed by the larger context of a declining EREV market. To meet its ambitious target of 550,000 units for 2026, Xiaomi needs to ramp up production significantly, achieving nearly 88,000 monthly deliveries by year’s end—more than double its recent performance.
Initial interest was evident with 10,000 orders within the first four minutes of its September launch, and the company aimed to enhance customer experience by minimizing wait times. The new vehicle lineup includes several models, featuring a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, with prices starting at CN¥209,900 (approximately US$31,170). Despite the excitement around the launch, the order figures reveal a slower uptake compared to earlier models like the YU7, which garnered 300,000 orders in its first hour.
Investors reacted positively to the early order numbers, with a notable 8% increase in stock price, but the looming challenges remain. Sales in the EREV segment overall have dwindled, with a 15.85% year-on-year drop reported. Key competitors like Li Auto and Aito dominate the market, making it hard for Xiaomi to gain traction without taking sales away from established rivals.
As it stands, Xiaomi delivered 286,475 vehicles in the first three quarters of 2026, leaving a daunting challenge to reach its year-end goals. The Sky Nomad line offers a potential path to growth, especially as Xiaomi eyes expansion into Europe in 2027, but it may not be enough to significantly uplift their current business trajectory.
