Maine’s Jessica Meir Returns to Earth After Spending Eight Months in Space

NASA astronaut Jessica Meir, originally from Caribou, Maine, has returned to Earth after an impressive eight-month mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Crew-12 team. The crew, which included Jack Hathaway, Sophie Adenot, and Andrey Fedyaev, safely splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off Los Angeles on October 8.

During their time in space, the astronauts conducted extensive scientific research, focusing on areas like stem cells, nutrition, and the effects of spaceflight on blood flow. They also worked on producing IV fluids in space, which will benefit both astronaut health and medical practices on Earth.

Meir’s achievements include being part of the first all-female spacewalk in 2019 and commanding the SpaceX Crew-12 mission. What do you think about her contributions to space exploration? Feel free to share your thoughts!
