Gensler Principal to Deliver Hyde Lecture on the Intersection of Design and Business

Lena Kitson, a principal at Gensler’s Chicago office, will deliver the upcoming Hyde Lecture titled “Business of Design” at 4 p.m. on October 14 in Architecture Hall West, Room 127.

Kitson coordinates multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects progress from concept to completion, assisting clients in realizing their visions through strategic planning and collaboration. Her extensive portfolio includes projects for notable clients such as Edelman, BP, and the University of Chicago.

In addition to her project leadership, Kitson is a member of Gensler’s Global Inclusion Committee, focusing on enhancing operational excellence across regional offices.

During her lecture, Kitson will explore the multifaceted role of design, which goes beyond aesthetics to deliver value to clients and communities. She will discuss the interplay between design, business strategy, and innovation, addressing how architects juggle creativity with project management and client relations. The lecture will also cover design’s contributions to branding, user experience, and sustainable, user-centered practices in today’s competitive marketplace.

The Hyde Lecture Series, part of the College of Architecture, invites prominent figures in architecture and design each year to address pressing issues affecting the design professions.
