ARTober Festivities in Downtown Chico
CHICO, Calif. — A month-long celebration of art and community events, known as ARTober, is currently taking place in downtown Chico. Organizers aim to increase foot traffic to local businesses as the holiday shopping season draws near.
ARTober kicked off on October 3 with an opening event and art walk. The next highlight is the Art and Wine Walk scheduled for Friday, October 9. Ticket holders will have the opportunity to explore 28 downtown locations displaying artwork while sampling local cider, wine, and beer.
Celeste Kramer, general manager of the Downtown Chico Business Association, emphasized the event’s purpose: connecting artists with businesses and potential customers. She noted, “Our job at the DCBA is to get people on the sidewalks… Every time we do an event, and we draw thousands of people, it helps out our local businesses.”
Event Features
- Art Viewing & Tastings: Visitors can browse stores while enjoying beverages served at tasting stations located inside participating shops, encouraging local holiday shopping.
- Increased Artist Visibility: Exhibiting artwork in stores helps local artists gain exposure and traffic toward shops.
Upcoming Events
Later in October, additional ARTober events are planned, including:
- Pastels on the Plaza: A Halloween-themed art competition for young artists.
- Treat Street: Scheduled for Friday, October 30, this family-friendly event features closed streets with booths, face painting, magicians, and costumed participants.
The Downtown Chico Business Association hosts over 50 events annually, all aimed at drawing people to downtown and encouraging repeat visits.
