BC graduate shares insights on flavor science and career paths in culinary education with students.

On Wednesday, September 30, Culinary Arts students at Bethlehem Central High School had a special visit from alumna Emily Crandall, who is now an admissions counselor at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA).

Crandall, a 2017 graduate, provided insight into CIA’s degree programs, campus life, internships, and career prospects in the culinary and hospitality fields. She emphasized the distinction between taste and flavor, explaining that while taste is limited, flavor is nearly infinite. Students participated in an interactive chocolate tasting, comparing white, milk, and dark chocolate to understand differences in sweetness, texture, and flavor.

This engaging session connected classroom learning with real-world culinary experiences. A big thank you to Emily Crandall and Ms. Bradt for facilitating such a memorable lesson!
