The University of North Alabama (UNA) recently marked a significant milestone with the opening of Bobby Wallace Field at Bank Independent Stadium. This achievement realizes a nearly 50-year aspiration for an on-campus stadium.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony on a Friday evening, the North Alabama Lions played Alcorn State the following day in the inaugural game held on campus, attracting nearly 12,000 students, alumni, and fans. The Lions triumphed with a score of 38-20.
Davis Architects led the design of the stadium, with HPM as program manager and other collaborators including Ampere and Fite Building Company. Together, they transformed this long-held vision into a reality, providing a new home for Lion Athletics and a community hub.
Ryan Adams, UNA’s Director of Athletic Facilities and Events, highlighted the excitement felt upon the stadium’s opening and emphasized the community’s collective celebration. He noted the facility’s potential to create lasting memories for future generations, making it more than just a venue for games.
