Willy Street business initiates initiative to assist its community.

Local business owners on Madison’s Williamson Street are working to maintain the neighborhood’s unique character following a police shooting that led to protests and a 12-day street closure. The incident, which involved Corey Ruiz, significantly impacted local businesses, with the Working Draft Beer Company reporting a 25% drop in sales.

Despite these challenges, business owners are committed to supporting one another and fostering resilience in the community. Clint Lohman of Working Draft emphasized the neighborhood’s strength, stating it will remain a safe gathering place.

In response to recent events, Working Draft has announced a new beer, “I ❤️ Willy Street Amber IPA,” with $1 from each sale going to local organizations that support community and social justice initiatives. Co-founder Ben Feifarek acknowledged that while their efforts are small, they represent a beginning.

Business owners highlight the need for community support to help them recover. Lohman encourages everyone to back local businesses, noting that recovery will take time but is achievable with collective effort.
