The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed new sanctions on Iran, targeting 28 companies and two individuals in the automotive, rail transportation, and heavy industries sectors. Major Iranian automakers, such as Iran Khodro, SAIPA, and Pars Khodro, have been added to the sanctions list, alongside the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways and companies like Raja Passenger Trains.
The sanctions also extend to foreign entities, including companies in Indonesia, the UAE, Türkiye, and Hong Kong, involved in supplying parts to Iran’s automotive sector, such as PT Golden Motorcycle International and Integrated Auto Parts. Additionally, the Iranian Heavy Equipment Production Company (HEPCO) has been targeted.
The U.S. Treasury notes that Iran increasingly relies on its rail network for trade amid economic difficulties, leading to a broader strategy to apply economic pressure through sanctions on transportation infrastructure and supply chains.
