The U.S. Treasury Department announced new sanctions on Iran’s automotive and rail sectors as part of its ongoing economic pressure campaign against Tehran. This move is aligned with “Operation Economic Outcast,” aimed at cutting funding for military operations, missile development, cyberattacks, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The sanctions target major companies including Iran Khodro Company and SAIPA, which together control over 90% of Iran’s auto market. The action also includes the designation of state-owned railway companies, aiming to steer Tehran towards negotiations to end the conflict. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized that these sanctions focus on disrupting the regime’s revenue sources effectively.
