Dylan Larkin to Miss First Two Games of the Season
Detroit Red Wings center Dylan Larkin will miss the first two games of the season this weekend due to an upper-body injury.
Head coach Todd McLellan confirmed Larkin’s status on Thursday. The 30-year-old center is currently considered day-to-day.
“He’s working with the training staff to push through,” said McLellan. “I’m hoping for Game 3.”
The Red Wings will start their season with a four-game homestand, beginning with matches against the New York Rangers on Friday and the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday.
This offseason, Larkin lost his captaincy after requesting a trade. He had served as captain since 2021 and has spent his entire NHL career with Detroit.
Last season, Larkin achieved a career-high by scoring 34 goals and providing 33 assists in 74 games. He is also a gold medalist from the 2026 United States Olympic team in Italy. Over 808 career games since being selected 15th overall in the 2014 NHL Draft, he has amassed 643 points (276 goals, 367 assists).
The Red Wings have not made it to the playoffs since the 2015-16 season, where Larkin played in the only five postseason games of his career.
