SpyGlass Pharma Acquires Advanced Vision Science
IRVINE, Calif. — SpyGlass Pharma, Inc. (Nasdaq: SGP), a late-stage biopharmaceutical company, has announced the acquisition of all outstanding shares of Advanced Vision Science, Inc. (AVS). This acquisition, valued at approximately $13 million in cash, aims to secure scalable commercial intraocular lens (IOL) supply and enhance SpyGlass’s lens portfolio.
AVS, previously a wholly owned subsidiary of Santen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., currently supplies SpyGlass with IOLs for its phase 3 trials evaluating the BIM-IOL System, which integrates a monofocal IOL with drug-eluting pads.
Under the new agreement, AVS will exclusively manufacture and supply various IOL types for Santen’s commercialization efforts in Japan. AVS will also continue licensing its hydrophobic acrylic lens material to Bausch + Lomb for the enVista IOL line and produce products for other IOL companies globally.
Patrick Mooney, CEO of SpyGlass Pharma, commented on the strategic acquisition: “It secures our long-term supply of high-quality IOLs and accelerates our portfolio development.” He noted that while their monofocal IOL serves many cataract patients, premium options like toric lenses could also benefit some patients.
Rie Nakajima, COO of Santen Global, praised SpyGlass’s potential to leverage AVS’s strengths to fulfill unmet needs in eyecare worldwide.
Gitkin & Co. acted as financial advisor for SpyGlass, while Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, P.C., served as legal counsel. MTS Health Partners, L.P. provided financial advice to Santen, with Squire Patton Boggs (US) LLP as legal counsel.
As of June 30, 2026, SpyGlass Pharma reported holding $234.2 million in cash and equivalents, with expectations to fund operations through 2028.
