ICC Celebrates 50th Annual Power Show and Automotive Open House

EAST PEORIA (25News Now) – Illinois Central College’s East Campus marked its 50th annual Power Show and Automotive Open House this weekend, providing aspiring technicians with hands-on experience in the automotive industry.

Over the decades, the event has showcased a range of vehicles, from classic cars to the latest models. A constant throughout these years is the importance of understanding what’s under the hood.

The event allows students to explore automotive work opportunities post-high school through practical activities and technology demonstrations. Trevor Imm, instructor and program coordinator for GM ASEP, noted the event serves as a bridge between prospective students and the college’s resources.

“It gives them an opportunity to see a little bit about what it’s like here, meet the instructors, and connect with current ICC students,” Imm stated.

In addition to learning experiences, representatives from several car manufacturing businesses engaged with students about potential career paths in the automotive field. Rocky Griffin, service manager at Sam Leman Ford, emphasized the importance of personal connections.

“Just to know there’s opportunities out there and to put a face with a place,” Griffin remarked.

More than 300 students participated in skill-building activities at the event. Organizers reiterated that despite evolving technology, foundational knowledge of automotive mechanics remains essential.
