The I3R Watershed Grants Program at the University of Arkansas has awarded $1 million to 15 interdisciplinary research teams to promote collaboration and accelerate research efforts. Initially aiming to fund 7 to 10 projects, the program expanded after receiving a strong response with 56 proposals from 167 investigators across 10 colleges.
Hugh Churchill, interim director of I3R, highlighted the program’s potential to foster impactful collaborations and attract external funding. The funded projects cover diverse areas including health, nutrition, and artificial intelligence, with the intent to enrich research engagement on campus. I3R also encourages applicants not selected for funding to pursue further research opportunities.
