Nor’easter Travel News: Flight Delays, Airline Accommodations, and Cruise Changes

This weekend’s nor’easter is expected to disrupt travel plans for many, especially at Boston Logan International Airport, where over a quarter of departures have already been canceled. New York’s LaGuardia and JFK airports are seeing fewer cancellations, but the situation may worsen as conditions deteriorate.

The National Weather Service warns of gale-force winds (45-65 mph) and heavy rain, increasing the likelihood of power outages, tree damage, and flash flooding in southern New England.

Major airlines have issued waivers for affected travelers:

  • United Airlines: Covers 10 Northeast airports for travel from September 25 to 27, allowing rebooking without fees through September 29.
  • American Airlines: Applies to 16 Northeast airports for travel from September 25 to 27, permitting rebooking through September 29 without fees.
  • JetBlue: Covers 11 hubs for September 25–27 travel, waiving change fees and allowing rebooking through September 30.
  • Delta Air Lines: Formal waivers for September 26–27 in various airports, with changes allowed without fees through October 2 for certain routes.

Cruise lines are also making adjustments due to the storm:

  • Royal Caribbean: Scrapped its Vision of the Seas itinerary in favor of a Bahamas route.
  • Carnival Cruise Line: Adjusted its Carnival Venezia schedule, delaying its Bermuda visit.
  • Norwegian Cruise Line: Norwegian Escape shortened its Halifax stop, returning to Manhattan early.

Travelers are advised to stay informed and check with their airlines for updates.
