Google has introduced a new feature called “Call for Me” with its AI agent, Gemini, which can make calls on behalf of users. Initially available for Pixel 11 owners with a Gemini subscription in the U.S., this feature is in beta and requires the updated Google Phone app.
Unlike previous AI calling capabilities, Gemini can now share approved personal information to manage broader tasks. Users can also follow along with live transcripts and take control of the call at any time. The AI can handle complex interactions, such as checking product availability, making reservations, or rescheduling appointments, and can navigate automated menus and wait on hold.
This feature builds on years of Google’s work in AI-assisted calling, following past demonstrations where the Google Assistant made natural-sounding calls. Google is rolling out this capability slowly to refine it before a wider release, acknowledging the nuanced nature of real-world conversations.
