Netflix is collaborating with Happy Valley star Sarah Lancashire, writer Abi Morgan, and production company Sister for a new dark thriller titled Witch Hunt. In this series, Lancashire stars as August Howell, a woman released from prison after being convicted of drowning her three daughters 30 years prior. Upon returning home, she faces a community that shuns her, and when suspicions rise about a modern witch hunt, the police seek help from her last surviving daughter, Professor Wren Howell.
Lancashire is also known for her role in Netflix’s Black Doves, another Sister production. Morgan reunites with Netflix after her earlier work on the limited series Eric, which starred Benedict Cumberbatch.
Lancashire praised Witch Hunt as “a brilliantly imagined and utterly compelling story” and expressed excitement about exploring her character deeply.
In addition to Witch Hunt, Netflix introduced a comedy series featuring British comedians Bob Mortimer and Richard Ayoade during the Netflix UK Upfronts in London. The show, titled Hot or Cold, involves teams navigating through challenges without prior knowledge of what each challenge entails.
Chris Cohen from Zeppotron, the show’s production company, shared his enthusiasm for creating a show centered on the bewildering experience of not knowing what’s going on, emphasizing the comedic talents of Mortimer and Ayoade.
