Downtown Augusta shops prepare for increased construction delays.

Broad Street Construction Updates in Downtown Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The ongoing Broad Street Improvements Project has entered a new phase, impacting local businesses that have already faced challenges for months.

Current Phase Details

  • Work is now focused on the outside lanes between 10th and 11th streets.
  • Improvements include:
    • Installation of a new bike path.
    • Pouring of new sidewalk concrete.

A representative from the city or contractor E.R. Snell will meet with each business to find optimal times for concrete removal and replacement.

Access Implications

  • Temporary pedestrian access will be maintained using a compacted stone surface while existing sidewalks are removed.
  • Although access may be limited during construction, city officials assure that businesses will remain accessible.
  • Everyone is encouraged to use caution and follow directions in the work zone.

City officials are thanking the public for their patience and direct them to AugustaDTP.com for updates on traffic and the project.

Previous Impacts

This latest phase adds to the strain already felt by downtown businesses, as they’ve reported declines in sales due to ongoing construction. Renovations are expected to continue until early 2027, with some business owners expressing concerns about reduced parking and customer access.
