Lionel Richie is taking a break to recover after a successful heart procedure for Atrial fibrillation, confirmed by a representative. Although he is doing well, he will pause his activities for a while.
Richie, 77, had reportedly been experiencing dehydration during performances, leading to a hospital visit on August 29 after his concert in St. Louis. This situation caused him to take breaks during shows, such as sitting while performing “All Night Long” and drinking electrolytes.
Upcoming shows with Earth, Wind & Fire, originally set for late September and early October, have now been canceled as the tour faced multiple health-related rescheduling due to both Richie and the band’s members experiencing medical issues.
As for future performances, Richie has a six-night residency planned at Wynn Las Vegas’ Encore Theater in mid-October and November. It’s uncertain if he will return as a judge for the upcoming season of “American Idol.”
