Rolls-Royce inaugurates the Eric Platford Testway at Goodwood.

Rolls-Royce has launched the Eric Platford Testway at its Goodwood facility, a new dedicated space for the final validation of completed vehicles. Opened by Gary Shipton, High Sheriff of West Sussex, at an event led by Director of Manufacturing, Gunther Boehner, the Testway honors Sir Henry Royce’s first Chief Tester, Eric Platford, known for his contributions to the brand’s early reputation, including securing a win at the 1913 Spanish Grand Prix.

The Testway features four parallel 90-meter lanes with eight different surface profiles, designed to replicate various global road conditions, from cobblestones to high-frequency corrugations. A comprehensive validation process includes passing through an aero-acoustic chamber to test wind noise at speeds over 70 mph, complemented by assessments on a local established route.

Boehner emphasized that the Testway reflects Rolls-Royce’s commitment to excellence, reinforcing their pursuit of refinement and a superior driving experience.
