St. Charles County to Launch a Second Pet Adoption Facility

St. Charles County, Mo. is set to open a second pet adoption center in Lake St. Louis, expanding the capabilities of the current center in St. Peters. The new facility, planned for construction at the National Equestrian Center Park, aims to accommodate around 800 animals, addressing the current close-to-capacity situation at the existing center.

Sara Evers, acting director of the St. Charles County Department of Public Health, highlighted the increasing demand for animal care, spurred by factors such as the rise in stray animals and financial difficulties faced by families. The second center will support additional programs like low-cost sterilization and an animal food pantry, which currently aids about 16 families.

Funding for the project includes $215,000 for civil engineering and $927,000 for architectural services, sourced from the park tax already paid by residents. The goal is to break ground within the next year and open by 2028.
