Richmond Street Automotive Promotes Vehicle Readiness for National Preparedness Month
Appleton, WI – September 15, 2026 – Richmond Street Automotive, a family-owned auto repair shop in Appleton, is encouraging drivers across the Fox Valley to prepare their vehicles for emergencies as part of National Preparedness Month.
Importance of Emergency Preparedness
Every September, FEMA’s Ready Campaign emphasizes the need for individual and community preparedness. In line with this initiative, Richmond Street Automotive has released a vehicle emergency-readiness checklist tailored for residents who rely on their cars daily.
Brent Vanden Heuvel, the shop owner, stated, “Wisconsin drivers know that road and weather conditions can change quickly. A vehicle emergency plan starts before a driver is stranded. A few basic checks and the right supplies can make an unexpected situation safer and easier to manage.”
Vehicle Preparedness Checklist
The checklist focuses on five key areas:
-
Battery and Charging System: Test the battery as cooler temperatures can reveal issues that went unnoticed in the summer.
-
Tires: Inspect tread, wear patterns, and ensure the cold inflation pressure is correct. Tire pressure can drop by 1 PSI for every 10°F decrease in temperature.
-
Brakes and Fluids: Ensure brakes, coolant, lights, wipers, and washer fluid are all functioning well as days grow shorter.
-
Emergency Kit: Assemble a kit with essentials like a flashlight, first-aid items, food, water, blankets, and an ice scraper tailored to household needs.
-
Roadside and Emergency Contacts: Keep critical information accessible, especially if phone service is unavailable.
