NASA Accelerates Plans to Establish US Space Academy

NASA is rapidly advancing plans for the United States Space Academy, aiming for a groundbreaking of its permanent campus by next year. The Academy is set to begin enrolling students in temporary facilities starting in 2028, with a move to a permanent site anticipated by 2031.

The proposed campus will span at least 300 acres and initially accommodate 1,200 undergraduates, with the potential to grow to 4,000. It will focus on training future leaders in space exploration, operations, and security, ideally located near existing NASA facilities or universities.

A “Request for Information” document has initiated a competitive bidding process among all 50 states, inviting proposals that detail contributions like land, infrastructure, and funding. States such as Texas, Florida, and Alabama are expected to present enticing bids, with all submissions due by October 26. This competition resembles corporate relocations, with states offering incentives to attract federal investment in the Space Academy.
