Naturally Scotland: A Taste of Scotland in North Idaho
Overview
Andrew and Tracy Begg, the owners of Naturally Scotland in Hayden, aim to bring authentic Scottish experience and hospitality to North Idaho. Their business, founded in 2015, features traditional and artisanal goods, including Highland jewelry and high-quality Scottish teas and coffees.
Background
The Beggs made the switch to entrepreneurship after moving from San Diego, motivated by a desire to spend more time with their children. Andrew’s Scottish heritage influenced their venture, with family roots in Glasgow. Frequent visits to Scotland helped Andrew discover unique products that were not yet available in America.
Products and Sales
Andrew travels annually to the Glasgow Scottish Trade Fair, representing a collection of around 200 vendors. Naturally Scotland markets its products online and at various local venues, including the Marketplace@Miles and the Coeur Street Fair. Their best-selling items include handmade Highland jewelry and Edinburgh teas, some of which are served at Kaffe Meister in Coeur d’Alene.
Future Plans
The Beggs are looking to open a physical store in the future, aspiring to create a Scottish-themed tea and coffee house. They are excited about introducing a private label of tea, made and blended in Scotland, next month. Both of their children are involved in the business, with their daughter Sarah contributing her barista skills.
Upcoming Glasgow Trip
In January, Sarah will join her parents on the annual trip to Glasgow, participating in the trade fair and connecting with suppliers.
