Over 600 flights were canceled in the U.K. due to a technical issue with the air traffic control system on Tuesday. The National Air Traffic Services identified the problem in their flight processing system and worked urgently to fix it. As a result, flights at major airports, including Heathrow, Stansted, Manchester, and Birmingham, were disrupted.
At least 625 flights were reported canceled, affecting airlines like British Airways, EasyJet, KLM, and Lufthansa. Passengers expressed frustration on social media about being stuck on the tarmac for extended periods and the lack of communication from airlines.
EasyJet mentioned that the system failure not only impacted its flights but also caused delays across Europe. Heathrow’s website indicated cancellations and delays, particularly for short-haul flights departing to European destinations. The cause of the technical issue was not immediately known. Passengers were advised to check their flight status with their respective airlines.
