The Dripping Springs City Council has approved a new $260,000 project for wayfinding signs and gateway monuments along Hwy. 290, with a 3-2 vote on September 1. The project will include 20 wayfinding signs and three gateway monuments, aimed at improving navigation for residents and visitors, as much shopping is located off Hwy. 290.
Fazzone Builders, Inc. was awarded the contract after submitting the lowest bid, and the signs are designed by studio 16:19. Approval from the Texas Department of Transportation is required for the installation.
Funding for the signs will come entirely from hotel occupancy tax revenue, with $111,000 budgeted from FY 2025-26 and $150,000 from FY 2026-27.
While supporters argue that these physical signs will enhance navigation without relying on fragmented online information, some council members have expressed concerns about the project’s cost-effectiveness. The project is expected to be completed in six to seven months.
