New Airline for Dogs at MacArthur Airport
MacArthur Airport in Long Island is welcoming a new pet-first airline, RetrievAir, which allows dogs to fly in the cabin alongside their owners. This change comes as the airline moves operations from Republic Airport in Farmingdale to Ronkonkoma.
Key Details:
-
Routes: Nonstop flights to Chicago and the D.C. area start on September 6, with Fort Lauderdale flights opening for booking in November.
-
Airline Concept: Founded by Benton Miller, RetrievAir aims to address the challenges of traveling with pets, ensuring they don’t have to travel in cargo.
“We’re not going to put them in cargo, and we don’t have charter money,” Miller explained.
Unique Features:
- Cabin Experience: Smaller planes mean fewer seats, so dogs can stay with their owners for the entire flight. Dogs under 40 pounds can sit on their owner’s lap, while larger dogs can have their own seat.
- Fares: Prices average around $775 per seat, varying by route and demand.
RetrievAir joins other airlines like Southwest, JetBlue, and Frontier at MacArthur Airport, catering to the needs of dog owners seeking convenient travel options.
