Ali Akbar Salehi recently spoke at a foundation meeting about launching a global funding platform for scientific contributions. He emphasized the need to connect supporters with scientists worldwide, arguing that if knowledge can be globally exchanged, so should financial support for science.
Salehi discussed the foundation’s innovative approach to using cryptocurrency, stating it is merely a tool to facilitate global contributions to scientific endeavors. He addressed the importance of leveraging new financial technologies to overcome geographical barriers, aiming to enhance international participation in funding scientific projects.
He referenced the Islamic tradition of waqf (endowment) to illustrate sustainable support for scientific initiatives, noting that modern donors can contribute to various fields such as medical research or emerging technologies. Salehi highlighted examples of past laureates who have dedicated parts of their resources to foster scientific progress, suggesting that those recognized today could become supporters of future scientists.
Salehi called for increased use of emerging technologies to bridge the gap between philanthropic supporters and researchers, underscoring that both science and its funding should transcend borders. “Participation in shaping the future of science should not stop at borders,” he concluded.
