The Kurdistan Region of Iraq recently received recognition at the UAE’s 2026 Annual Investment Meeting (AIM) Congress for its significant strides in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). This recognition comes as part of a prestigious competition where the Kurdistan Region’s Board of Investment was honored as a finalist for its “Invest Kurdistan” initiative, which won the Middle East Regional Investment Promotion Award.
Bargasht Akrayi, the spokesperson for the Board of Investment, highlighted the importance of this achievement for the region’s economic growth and sustainability. The AIM Investment Awards are awarded based on a comprehensive assessment that considers economic impact, job creation, innovation, and alignment with sustainable development goals.
During the event at the Dubai World Trade Center, the Kurdistan Region participated alongside representatives from over 180 countries, emphasizing its commitment to creating a favorable environment for foreign investment. Mohammed Shukri, Chairman of the Board of Investment, expressed pride in presenting Kurdistan as an attractive destination for global partnerships.
Additionally, the Kurdistan Regional Government has been focused on diversifying its revenue streams and establishing the region as a prime location for international businesses. An upcoming investment summit in Erbil aims to showcase opportunities to potential investors from Turkey and Azerbaijan.
