Introducing the Jensen Interceptor GTX
Jensen International has unveiled the Interceptor GTX, a modern take on the classic Interceptor grand tourer from the 1960s and ‘70s. This new model emphasizes track performance, powered by a supercharged 6.8-liter V-8 engine that delivers 960 horsepower to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential transaxle. The GTX will initially be available as a track-only vehicle, with plans for road-legal variants, such as the Interceptor GT and GTR.
V-8 Performance
The Interceptor GTX boasts impressive specifications. Its engine, based on the LT-series from General Motors, has been extensively reworked, with less than 20% of the original components retained. This engine can rev up to 7000 rpm, integrating a 2.7-liter Roots-type supercharger for rapid throttle response and powerful delivery. Additionally, Jensen claims the modified engine is capable of reaching up to 1200 horsepower and over 1000 pound-feet of torque.
Power is transmitted through a carbon-fiber driveshaft housed in a steel torque tube, utilizing a six-speed sequential transmission from Samsonas Motorsport. The focus on performance is further emphasized with steel brake rotors and adjustable brake balance from within the cabin.
Assertive Design
The GTX features a striking design that pays homage to its predecessor while incorporating modern aesthetics. Designed in collaboration with Avant Design, the handcrafted aluminum body showcases sharp lines and a muscular stance. The front end resembles the Chevy Camaro, while the overall appearance hints at a luxurious version of a NASCAR racer. Key design elements include slim headlights, a prominent rear wing generating considerable downforce, and an aerodynamic body featuring a large splitter and diffusers.
Race-Ready Interior
Inside, the GTX retains a racing focus with a bespoke, FIA-approved roll cage, carbon-fiber seats, and a simplistic digital display. The absence of a central screen does not diminish its quality, as it includes plush Alcantara padding accentuated with orange stitching.
Future Developments
Jensen International envisions the GTX as an “enhanced prototype,” set to pave the way for street-legal versions, including the Interceptor GTR and the more luxury-oriented Interceptor GT. While the GTX is gearing up for dynamic testing, details on launch timelines and pricing are still unclear, with the company hinting at limited availability in the U.K.
