U.S. Senator Ashley Moody plans to introduce legislation to establish the U.S. Space Academy in Florida as a key initiative to enhance the state’s role in the space sector. This proposal aligns with President Donald Trump’s vision to educate and equip the next generation of skilled professionals for NASA, the Space Force, and the commercial space industry.
Moody asserts that Florida, known as America’s “launchpad to the stars,” is the ideal location for the academy. She expressed her commitment by stating, “The first thing I’ll do when I’m back in Washington is introduce legislation to bring the academy home to Florida.”
The president has formed a commission to provide guidance on the academy’s framework, involving key officials like Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
Moody’s ongoing commitment to the space sector includes her sponsorship of the Secure U.S. Leadership in Space Act, which aims to enhance public-private partnerships and ensure the U.S. remains competitive in the global space economy. Along with Senator Rick Scott, she is advocating for the Consolidating Aerospace Programs Efficiently (CAPE) Act to relocate NASA headquarters to the Space Coast.
Additionally, her Space Ready 2.0 Act proposes a pilot program allowing NASA to accept private contributions for infrastructure improvements nationwide, including on the Space Coast.
