Ongoing Investigation: Sony Pictures Television announced they are conducting a “thorough investigation” into the matter.
Details surrounding Jim Thornton’s suspension have emerged this week. Following an incident on a May 14 American Airlines flight from Charlotte, N.C. to Los Angeles, a fellow passenger reported him to airline staff after taking photos of his screen. The discussion in the chat room mentioned concerning topics, leading to law enforcement questioning him upon landing. He was later released without charges.
In a letter from his attorney, Allison Hart, it was explained that Thornton was involved in suicide prevention advocacy after a personal loss. She asserted that he misunderstood the webpage’s purpose, believing it was a support forum similar to 988lifeline.org.
Hart emphasized that there was no unlawful activity and that Thornton navigated away from the page upon realizing its content. Law enforcement confirmed he had committed no crime.
Sony Pictures did not provide details about the suspension but stated they would be recasting during the investigation. Thornton has been with the show since 2011, joining during the tenure of Pat Sajak.
