BYD Addresses Overseas Automotive Compliance Guidelines

BYD has recently acknowledged the “Guidelines on Overseas Competitive Behavior and Compliance Construction in the Automotive Industry” put forth by various government departments. The company plans to utilize these guidelines as a framework for enhancing its overseas compliance management. Key initiatives will include:

  • Standardizing overseas pricing
  • Upholding fair competition
  • Protecting consumer rights
  • Strengthening adherence to local regulations and corporate social responsibility

As international markets grow increasingly important for BYD, the automaker reported shipping 189,500 new energy vehicles abroad in August, marking a 134.5% increase year-over-year.

This shift signifies a new era where Chinese automakers transition from merely exporting vehicles to establishing local production and long-term operations. Compliance is evolving into a crucial factor not only for legal operations but also for pricing strategies, dealer management, after-sales service, data security, and labor practices. The guidelines emphasize that the aggressive tactics common within China’s domestic market should not be replicated in global markets.
