The research from Washington State University reveals that Robinhood investors tend to favor simpler, easier-to-understand stocks, which have outperformed more complex firms. Robinhood, a popular trading platform used by around 28 million people, primarily appeals to younger investors. Professors Mario Reyes and Ruixue (Rachel) Gao found that a preference for simplicity can impact market dynamics, as increased demand for straightforward stocks influences their performance. The study highlights the need for companies to adapt their communications to engage younger investors effectively. The research used data from May 2018 to August 2020, assessing complexity through accounting and organizational measures, confirming that Robinhood users consistently choose stocks that are easier to analyze.
