AnnurtriComplex is a clinically validated ingredient that employs a multi-faceted approach to support hair health, derived from the polyphenol extract of Annurca apples, which are exclusively sourced from the Campania region in southern Italy.
This ingredient was initially researched and developed by scientists at the University of Naples. Recently launched by MartinBauer during the Vitafoods event (May 5-7), it addresses the emerging concern that hair loss is a prevalent issue among GLP-1 users.
This marks MartinBauer’s first appearance in the market as a dedicated nutraceuticals entity, showcased at Vitafoods in Barcelona.
Julia Wiebe, the director of scientific affairs and marketing, pointed out that hair loss impacts around 50% of the population, often due to hormonal shifts.
“Many existing treatments operate at a hormonal level and often come with unwelcome side effects, including itchiness, loss of libido, and even depression,” she added.
Wiebe further explained that while it is impossible to create new hair follicles once they have died, enhancing the health and growth cycle of existing ones is feasible.
“Hair goes through a growth cycle and resting phases until it falls out, replaced by new hair, or eventually ceases to grow altogether,” she stated.
When taken as a preventive measure, AnnurtriComplex has the potential to ‘reprogram’ hair follicles, encouraging them to utilize glucose for energy instead of amino acids. This preserves amino acids for keratin synthesis, which is the protein that constitutes about 90% of hair.
“This not only prolongs the growth phase of the hair but also contributes to thicker and stronger strands,” Wiebe explained.
Addressing the increasing population of GLP-1 users, Wiebe suggested that AnnurtriComplex could serve as an ideal supportive ingredient.
“Our ingredient perfectly complements GLP-1 drugs; while these treatments do not destroy hair follicles, they can lead them into a resting state. This presents an excellent opportunity for a natural ingredient that keeps follicles actively growing,” she noted.
AnnurtriComplex can be integrated into various formats, such as instant powders, gummies, tablets, capsules, and topical applications, offering convenient and comprehensive solutions for hair health.
Clinical Backing
AnnurtriComplex is derived from a specific apple variety that undergoes a traditional process to boost its polyphenol levels. These apples are harvested while green and then sun-ripened on straw beds to ‘stress’ the fruit, enriching it with Procyanidin B2.
A controlled clinical trial with 250 participants experiencing hair loss demonstrated that taking 400 mg of AnnurTriComplex twice daily resulted in a noteworthy enhancement in hair growth after 60 days.
Moreover, this complex has been shown to impact pathways involved in minimizing the conversion of testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone, a significant factor in androgenic alopecia.
A Streamlined Platform
By integrating the expertise of MartinBauer, Finzelberg, and MB Med under a unified platform, MartinBauer Nutraceuticals aims to facilitate a smoother transition from concept to final product.
This new approach seeks to provide shorter development timelines, greater transparency, and heightened confidence in scientific validation as well as regulatory adherence.
“We are simplifying the development process,” stated Anina Krey, global director of MartinBauer Nutraceuticals. “Our objective is to assist partners in launching clinically validated botanical products more swiftly, with the transparency and reliability they require.”
