PET BLESSINGS & PRAYERS 🙏🐾

VIEW: A large gathering of pet owners at San Francisco Plaza in Quito, Ecuador, celebrated the annual animal blessing ceremony, honoring St. Francis of Assisi’s legacy in animal welfare. On October 3, a day ahead of the usual date, Franciscan priests offered blessings to a variety of animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, roosters, and even the ashes of cherished pets. This tradition, rooted in the Catholic Church’s recognition of St. Francis as the patron saint of ecology and animals, is widely practiced across Latin America. World Animal Day, established by the World Animal Protection Organisation in 1929, falls on October 4.
