Subaru of America, Inc. has released new data underscoring the significant role pets play in Americans’ holiday travel plans. The information stems from a survey conducted by Talker Research involving 2,000 U.S. drivers and pet owners.
Key Findings:
- Road Trip Preference: A notable 73% of pet owners prefer road trips over flying specifically to include their pets.
- Impact on Travel Plans: More than 68% of respondents indicated their pets will influence their travel plans this holiday season, with 45% having declined trips that don’t accommodate their animals.
- Change of Plans: About 25% of pet owners may alter their travel plans due to their pets:
- 10% might host instead of traveling.
- 10% may shorten trips for pet care.
- 8% could skip gatherings if their pets are not invited.
Generational Insights:
- Younger Generations Are Leading: Gen Z and millennials are more likely to bring pets home for holidays than older generations, with 35% versus 22% of Gen X and boomers.
- Planning Ahead: Nearly 45% of pet owners are planning pet-friendly trips weeks in advance.
Preferences When Traveling with Pets:
- Passenger Preference: Over 51% of pet owners enjoy traveling with their pets more than with other humans.
- Travel Necessities:
- 32% value ample space for pets and luggage.
- 29% prioritize visibility for seeing their pets.
- 27% look for easy-to-clean interiors.
