NSF-Supported CROSSROADS Initiative Creates Comprehensive Framework for Data Science Learning

The CROSSROADS initiative at Clark University harnesses data science to engage students across various disciplines—from arts to sciences—by tackling real-world questions. This interdisciplinary approach integrates faculty, students, and external partners, supported by a substantial NSF grant.

Key Components of CROSSROADS:

  1. Domain Exploration Modules: Short learning experiences using authentic data tailored to specific disciplines.

  2. Data Science Studio: A collaborative environment where students enhance technical skills through real projects, often involving partnerships with external organizations.

  3. Collaborative Workshops and Hub: Spaces for shared learning and resource exchange on data-related topics.

Since its launch, the initiative has actively engaged students in various projects, with faculty collaborating on the development of modules and workshops. The overarching goal is to create an educational ecosystem that empowers students to connect data science with issues they find meaningful, ultimately preparing them for competitive careers.
