Peoria County Board Approves Agreements for Juvenile Detention Space
PEORIA, IL – The Peoria County Board has recently approved intergovernmental agreements allowing the county’s Juvenile Detention Center to accommodate detainees from Tazewell and Macon Counties.
Currently, Peoria County provides Tazewell County with detention space on an as-needed basis and guarantees beds for Macon County, where the Bivens Whitten Juvenile Detention Center has been closed since 2001. The new agreement stipulates that Peoria will reserve five beds specifically for Macon County, which will pay for these beds regardless of their occupancy.
The daily rate for use of the beds will be $300, and Peoria County has a total capacity of 63 beds in its Detention Center. Over the past three years, the county has generated approximately $545,000 annually by accommodating detainees from other counties.
