Trump honors Elon Musk with the National Medal of Science, hailing him as a “contemporary Thomas Edison.”

Elon Musk has made it clear that Tesla and SpaceX will be in full control of the Terafab, a major chip manufacturing facility planned in Texas. In response to speculation about Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) potentially running the plant, Musk stated, “No, we will build and run the fab. Let there be ZERO doubt about that.” He indicated that while TSMC might have the option to sublease sections of the facility, they would not have operational control.

This announcement comes after discussions about TSMC’s involvement in the project surfaced, raising concerns about who would manage the factory. Musk’s assertion aims to clarify that Tesla and SpaceX will handle all aspects of the operations, including equipment decisions and day-to-day management.

The Terafab project, initiated as a collaboration between Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI, aims to meet the growing demand for chips used in applications such as AI, robotics, and autonomous vehicles. By owning the facility, Musk seeks to ensure his companies have the necessary resources to produce chips without competing for production time with other companies.

Despite TSMC’s potential role, Intel is still involved, working on chip design and packaging. The construction of Terafab is underway, with plans for a significant financial investment, underlining Musk’s commitment to in-house chip manufacturing expertise. This aligns with his vision for Tesla’s and SpaceX’s expansive tech goals, despite the challenges of building and operating a fab.
